For having, out of malice and greed,
Slain her father by poisoning
And her mother by murder,
We declare Lucie Elis
Guilty of parricide and matricide,
And we sentence her
To be delivered alive to the flames
Of a pyre,
And slowly consumed
Until death ensues.
Consequently,
We order that, when the day arrives,
Lucie Elis be dressed in the garb of the condemned,
And led, heavily shackled,
To the square in her own neighborhood—
Stopping along the way
To seek atonement and pardon
Before her parents’ house—
There to be firmly bound
To the stake of a pyre,
And delivered alive
To the flames,
For as long as it remains possible
For the executioner to ensure this.
Pending her execution,
The condemned shall be kept
In strict confinement
Within the royal fortress.
