Mizuki Takahashi was convicted in Tokyo, Japan, on charges of human trafficking and organized criminal enterprise as a ranking member of the Takahashi-gumi syndicate, a faction of the Yamaguchi-gumi. Her case originated from a large-scale operation spanning multiple prefectures, in which she and her immediate family were found to have coordinated the forced transport and exploitation of individuals for financial gain. Following her conviction and death sentence, Japanese authorities determined that domestic execution facilities were temporarily unavailable due to ongoing infrastructure renovations. Additionally, the overcrowding of gang-affiliated inmates in Tokyo's detention system created logistical barriers to carrying out the sentence within Japan's borders. As a result, the Japanese government entered into a formal international transfer agreement with U.S. correctional authorities. Takahashi was extradited to TC Denton Correctional Center to serve the remainder of her sentence, with the execution method designated as guillotine under the terms of the transfer treaty.
