On the day of public rejoicing,
The woman Demina—
Declared a heretic by the Holy Tribunal
And duly clad in the prescribed penitential garb—
Shall accompany her accomplice,
Chained upon a mule
With a rope around her neck,
To witness her confession,
Then follow her to the Place Royale
To see her readied for the pyre
Before being led to the scaffold,
Prepared for the garrote
And strangled
Until death ensues,
And her body consumed
Upon her lover’s pyre.
