NORTHERN LAKE, Mich. — The court-ordered public execution of Xinyi Lin, a 19-year-old Chinese international student whose drug trafficking conviction drew national and international attention, was carried out around noon Sunday at Northern Lake University Stadium under heavy security.
Government officials confirmed that the sentence was completed following months of judicial proceedings, appeals, and administrative review. The execution concluded a case that had remained in the national spotlight since Lin's arrest in May 2025.
Thousands of spectators entered the stadium beginning early Sunday morning after passing through multiple layers of security screening. The public program opened with presentations by court officials and law enforcement representatives, who reviewed the investigation, trial, and legal basis for the sentence before formal judicial procedures began.
Lin was transported from Appalachian Detention Complex shortly before midday as part of a heavily escorted motorcade that traveled through the university community.
